I did not necessarily want to respond with a lino cut so I decided to play around with a few things I found inspiring in Dante’s lino piece, plus a couple of ideas I have been wanting to try out.

His lines, shape, texture and paper resulted in this series of six 3.25 x 3.25” that I stitched into a small book.

I played around with staining newsprint which I then applied a faux mold to. And with watercolour I painted lines of various sizes using various colours, which were inspired by some of the lines I saw in his piece.

There was some neat stuff going on in Rochester New York. Here’s a few things that made me dig it (ill be doing some more research on this city):

1. Pistachio Press This was a pretty cool print house located in the basement of an apartment. They have a letterpress section to this print house with a cute store front that sold and showcased what they can do.

2. Joe Bean Coffee Roasters we spent the rainy evening in this dim lit coffee shop that had a pretty cool vibe.

3. Flour Magazine I picked up a copy of the first issue, which is filled with beautiful photographs and well written articles surrounding the arts and things going on in Rochester. I don’t know if they’re going to continue on with this Magazine (their website is down) But I hope they do because I am super please with the quality of it.

4. 6x6x2013 Art Show The Rochester Contemporary art Museum, is trying to raise money for a permanent location. They showcased over 5000+ art works and sold each piece at 20$ There is one specific artist I am waiting until July 5th for the name to be revealed so i can commission to make me a piece. (She/he) had these series done in watercolor of naked girls with their hair as ice cream, they are absolutely gorgeous, and I will post them when I find the artist’s name.

5. Rochester Brainery Each month you’ll find a variety of classes on an unrestricted variety of topics – really, anything goes, as long as there is something to be learned. Learn from local authors, artisans, actors, chefs, dancers, mixologists, musicians, flower-arrangers, beer-brewers, graphic designers, financial planners, and more. You might even meet some new friends with similar interests along the way! Each 30$ or less.

Part I

A conversation with a man who showed us around Avlon Mississippi where Mississippi John Hurt was from.

We went to Avlon to see where our favorite folk/ blues musician was from, and we met this guy that lived right by his grave yard and helped us explore the remains of where he used to play music.

After such a terrifying experience, did you guys have any life changing thoughts, regrets etc? Usually that kind of experience prompts thoughts like that. Just curious.

I can’t really speak for magida,but personally all I thought about was depressing stuff. Just thinking about not being able to say goodbye to my family. No regrets though. Other then not being with all my family. I kinda reached that point where I was like okay im ready to deal with whatever is coming towards us.
The interesting thing was being able to see the way we act under that sort of pressure and stress. Magida was trying to act as if she wasn’t scared but I could read it in her actions. She was whistling and tapping the steering wheel. And I know all I was doing was saying be careful, hurry up, but don’t drive fast. I was a horrible passenger. I kept on repeating myself.

We stopped in New Mexico after a hail/lightening/wind storm that passed through.

It was probably the most stressful night on the trip. We pretty much thought we were in danger and that being stuck on the highway during the storm, would really just be the end. I know that’s super dramatic to say, but Samira and I could equally say that was the scariest moments of our life. Feeling like we were in a deadly situation, and a Tornado would come and take us away.

The photo above is our Honey moon suite we got, and below is of the motel, and the owner sitting on the bench. If you check out the post below, you can listen to a part of our conversation we had with him.

We met a man at the Grand Canyon, who was super impressed that I photographed using film and polaroids. We bumped into him through out the day on and off, and he asked if he could take a picture of us. He got super into using my Yashica, and wanted to do all kinds of creative angles. This was on of them. I actually like this shot.
